Witnessing a tree being blown down

We were working in the veg garden after lunch and heard a big snap and crash. Looked down along the ditch of the middle field and the cattle were all asleep under the trees when one of them came crashing down. Everything was terrified, the cattle barley got away unharmed, the sheep in the lower left paddock went running down to the far corner and the geese were screaming.

It wasn't long until they were back and gorging on the ivy, they really love this stuff.

The source of the problem, the tree is totally rotten at the base, I blame all the ivy grown all over it, the piles of rubbish that has been dumped around it over the years.

A task over the winter is to cut all the ivy at the base of all the ash trees and let it die off, the wind-age in the crown of the trees is pretty big with all the ivy and today it was blowing pretty hard.
